Welcome

Fern Gully

Overview

1/9

The beautiful rural Fern Gully (self-catering forest cabins) are located 16kms outside the Garden-Route town of Knysna on the road to the historical Millwood goldmine sites and the Goudveld indigenous forest.

Guests at Fern Gully can enjoy the peace and quiet of the Knysna countryside, invigorating walks and mountain bike trails through the indigenous forest or head to the nearby beaches at Buffels Bay or Sedgefield.

The uniquely built wooden cabins at Fern Gully are set amongst the trees where one can enjoy the serenity of the country and the bird-life in their natural habitat. Each cabin is so positioned as to provide optimum privacy and seclusion and as they are built on stilts at the edge of a gorge, give guests the feeling and ambiance of being in the tree tops.

Fern Gully is a working macadamia farm. In 2001 Macadamia nut trees were planted after extensive research on their viability to be grown in the Knysna, Rheenendal area.

Macadamia trees originate in Australia but being related to the protea, the Cape climate and conditions suit them admirably. Nuts are borne once the trees are from 7 to 9 years of age but during this period Rheenendal suffered a serious drought, which initially hindered the trees but once they adapted to less 'pampering' the first crop was harvested in 2007 and from then on has steadily improved and the quality of nut is 'MAC...NIFICENT.

Forest Cabins

The gully that gave the farm its name runs through the bottom half of the land and the cabins, being built on stilts, at the edge of a gorge give the impression and ambiance of being in the tree tops. They are so positioned as to provide maximum seclusion and privacy and each deck faces its own view through the trees.

The cabins are solely Rob's design and creation and being uniquely different each one has its own distinct appeal.

Each cabin is fully furnished and equipped for self-catering ease (fridge, hot-plate, microwave, crockery, glassware, cookware etc.), bedding and bath towels and braai facilities on the deck.

All the cabins have an indoor shower and an additional hot & cold outside shower on the deck.
